Oskar Blues Mama Yella Pils,Victory Headwaters Pale Ale and others now on Tap | Hudson Valley

Oskar Blues  Mama Yella Pils

Oskar Blues’ newest beer is an uncompromising, small-batch version of the beer that made Pilsen, Czech Republic famous. Unlike mass market “pilsners” diluted with corn & rice, Mama’s is built with 100% pale malt, German specialty malts, and Bavarian hops. While it’s rich with Czeched-out flavor, its gentle hopping (35 IBUs) and low ABV (just 5.3%) make it a luxurious but low-dose (by Oskar Blues standards) refresher. Our first lager produced with the 20 bbl brewhouse. This pilsner is a clear golden color. Four additions of Saaz hops lend a spicy-floral hop component. It poured a clear gold color with a white head. The aroma was crisp grass, light pine and a bit of a sweet grain with some light floral backing. The taste started with floral and light bread notes with a growing crisp grass note as well as a hint of pine.

Victory Headwaters Pale Ale
Brewed by:
Victory Brewing Company
Pennsylvania, United States
Pours a clear copper orange color with a 2 finger very thick foamy beige head that faded very slowly, leaving good lacing.Smells of big hops up front, with floral hops, orange peel, citrus hops, grapefruit, caramel, sweet malt, grains, herbs and sweet candy or brown sugar; floral hops, citrus and sweetness dominate the nose and make this smell like an nice IPA. Tastes of floral hops, flowers, orange peel, lemon, citrus hops, grapefruit, grape or apple, caramel, sweet malt, grains, herbs, piney hops, wheat, brown sugar, coriander and bread or biscuit; the hops dominate most of the taste, but then give way to the sweet malts which adds nice balance and flavor. Mouthfeel is creamy and velvety smooth, with a medium body, very low carbonation and an easy smooth feel.

Oskar Blues HGH (Home Grown Hops) Strong Ale
HGH (Home Grown Hops) is an 8% ABV and 70 IBU Strong Ale juiced with hops locally grown at Oskar Blues Hops & Heifers Farm. Our home grown, high-potency, home run hitter is dry-hopped with Amarillo hops and then finished with a dose of Nugget and Centennial dry hopping. This farm raised strong ale injects more HGH than the 1998 home run race. Pours a medium, glassy amber with a pretty big off-white creamy head (about half bubbles and have solid froth). Leaves patchy, streaky lacing. Smell is medicinal and fruity hops. Palate is refreshing and delicious: grapefruit, hard butterscotch candy and then hop bitterness on the way down.

Smuttynose Old Brown Dog
Brewed by Smuttynose Brewing Company
Style: Brown Ale
Portsmouth, New Hampshire USA
Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.Red-amber-brown with a pinkish-brown cream head the color of a dog’s nose. Simple caramel and melanoidin malt nose. The body is of brown malt and full of melanoidins, perhaps some Belgian Aromatic. Full malt ball taste entwined with caramel along with some alcohol palpable in the background.

Oskar Blues G’Night Imperial Red/Double IPA
G’Knight sports a surprisingly sensuous finish for a beer of its size (8.7% ABV, 60 IBUs). It’s brewed in tribute to a fellow Colorado craft beer pioneer and Vietnam vet who died fighting a 2002 wild fire outside of our Lyons hometown.Gordon is a dry-hopped hybrid strong ale somewhere between a Double IPA and and Imperial Amber Ale (IAA). Brewed in tribute to the late Gordon Knight, Gordon is brewed with massive amounts of American hops and features about 85 IBUs and 8.7% alcohol by volume. Once a winter seasonal, Gordon is now a year-round, limited-supply offering.Orange-red with small white head. Aroma is flowery, lemony, a little bread. Medium body, alcohol hidden and a touch of carbonation. Flavor is very good, not quite living up to the aroma though, dry but not overwhelmingly so and a bit of malt.

Southern Tier 2x IPA
Brewed by Southern Tier Brewing Company
Style: Imperial/Double IPA
Lakewood, New York USA
Not quite an imperial, but certainly not a standard India pale ale. Our double IPA is a hop lovers dream. Citrusy and clean with an incredible finish.
A: very clear, copper colored pour with some moderate head that quickly dissipates
S: piney aroma, some citrus
T: again very piney, significant amounts of orange, lemon, moderately bitter, somewhat grassy with a tinge of alcohol towards the end
M: crisp, not too resiny or thick
O: Definitely enjoy this DIPA, although a few can get to your head quickly...excellent flavor and good for those who want a beer with a strong, hoppy character

Stone Vertical Epic 11.11.11  Belgian Strong Ale

Brewed by Stone Brewing Co.Ale brewed with Anaheim chiles and cinnamon.Stone Vertical Epic 11.11.11 is a crystal clear ruby ale with a thin, light khaki head that leaves excellent lacing on the glass. The aroma is quite spicy, warm and... food-like. There are notes of cinnamon, clove, apple, pear and vegetables. There seems to be a touch of sweetness in the nose. It’s pretty full bodied and lively. It leaves the mouth feeling slick for a while. There’s a lot going on in the taste. Overall, it’s pretty earthy and fruity.

Oskar Blues Smiddy Stout
Pours black with a thin, beige head. The aroma is coffee, caramel, and roasted malts, with notes of orange peels, cardamon, biscuit, and a lot of funky esters. The flavor is roasty and sweet, with a tartness in the finish. The palate is light to medium, astringent, and sticky.
